postheadericon Micro-Insect Or Plankton(Fossilized) Leg ?

What Is It?
These  pictures are of a (micro-insect or plankton) fossilized leg with two small claws at the apex. One of the claws is longer than the other one. I have been looking for any reference on it, but nothing yet.
Enjoy...

postheadericon Mudstone “ Marl” Microfossils # S 15

                                                                       Mudstone “ Marl” Microfossils # S 15

I'm always checking for microfossils on mudstones when I have free time. After viewing 5 mudstones and finding no specimens on them, I found (2) microfossils on the 6th one. I also drew a hand drawing on this mudstone, so I won't be looking for it later on,wondering which mudstone had them. I also remember to mark it with the # S 15 on the side of it.  Yes, I did checked it out before I mark it.

On S 1, the specimen looks hollow right in the middle of it and the outside looks somewhat pitted. There are (2) pictures of it, taking at 100x and 250x. Now, look at S 2, a lot smaller then S 1. As you look at it, It starts to look like it could cut you. S 2 pictures is also at 100x and at 250x.

Remember, enjoy life as I do, for I am pursuing my interest in microfossils.

MY COLLECTION OF MICROFOSSILS

I am looking for all paleontologist, who are willing to view(my microfossils gallery)
and share any information with me. In doing so, Iwill add a back link and share any information to all who are interested in microfossil collecting. I am still doing research on identifying my
collection of microfossils that I found on mudstones (marl).

One site that I have visited is at
microscopy . Their gallery of
microfossils photographs will aid me in my research. At this web site you login and then
view their gallery for they have several categories of studies(pond organisms, insects).
Another web site foraminifera is where
you can see photographs of foraminifera.
Visit wikipedia to learn
more on them. The gallery here has many photographs on foraminifera in very fine details.
I do enjoy visiting this site because of the gallery of photographs and all of the
information it does share with all.
Now, I have sent a photograph of a fossil (not of a microfossil) to this website
bassexpert . Here, any
one can submit in a photograph and all (login required) can help out in identifying a
fossil for you. They have a wide range of specimens photographs and also some photographs
of non-fossils. A good place to study about fossils and what to look for in a fossil
also.
However, my research on microfossils has limitation, due to I do not have a title or
belong to a research center. I will still do research on microfossils and post it for all
to follow up.
Enjoy life.

postheadericon Mudstone=Microfossil Found.

I was think of throwing out this mudstone out because I did not see anything on it.  I kind of put a hold on that and decided  to do another search on it.   A good thing that I did, because I saw this little speicmen just waiting for me to be found ! I took pictures of it at 100x, a video at 100x and a video at 250x. I was glad that I changed my mind on this microfossil.

PS: Sent me an email and I will email you back when I post more pictures at my blog. Deal!

Now, this picture is at 100x.

postheadericon No Title to My Name.

                                                                      No Title to My Name.
I started collecting rocks/stones many years ago because they were nice to looked at. In time, I had to many of them on my desk. So, I took some of them and threw them out and that was how it was for me years ago. I am not an expert on fossils or microfossils field. I just read up on fossils and that's it.
When I do find something on any rock/stone, I will look at it and do a step by step breakdown. For example:
Does it have a specific shape(round, square)?
Does it look like a small organism (a rock will look like a rock, sand like sand)?
Does it stand out from the background of the rock/stone ?
Is it in a different color than the background?
I do have several reference books on hand and so far they are not helping me out. When I'm online, I do check out any web sites that has fossils pictures on it. Still, I am not able to see another picture of it there. I don't have an I.D. for them yet and when I do, I will put a name to them. I am just sharing my pictures with all who enjoy collecting fossils.
More pictures added to group # 1. on 3/14/10.

postheadericon Time To Find Microfossils !

It's Time To Find Some Microfossils
Now that winter is almost over with, I have started to look for rocks/stones with cracks or have been split open. Why, because at this time most rocks/stones have the tendency to split in half , due to the cold/warm weather changes. So, now, you would be able to see the inside of a rock/stone without hitting it with a hammer. (see picture below) If you have a rock garden or a landscaping area with rocks/stones, check that area first. Find a couple and view them. Following steps are the ones I follow.
1.Find some rocks/stones or ones that are split open and handle with care
2.View up closely. Examine it, note the shape of it.
3.Do not clean off..Do not use soapy water on it, in fact, do not rinse off.
4. Put into small plastic baggie/container for storage to take back.
5.View under microscope, look around to all areas of the surface
6.When you find one or something, it would be all right to shout out loud.
7.Now, draw a picture of your rock/stone on a 3x5 index card, this way you can remember on which one you saw it. Then, mark the spot with a reference point and draw a small picture of of your find.
8.Reference your find. Ex. M 1, for mudstone # 1, S 1 for specimen # 1, Then, take a picture of it., if able. If not ,you will have a reference of it. For later on when you can.
9.View fossil at different power levels. When doing this and able a take pictures of it. Label each picture with a title ..ex. M 1, S 1a at 50x, M1, S 1b at 100x.
10.On finding a 2rd fossil on the same rock/stone. Do M 1, S 2. see the pattern. Don't forget to mark it and label it.
11.Store your rock/stone in a small plastic baggie/box. Label it M 1, S 1.

Take your time, don't rush. If you have to sneeze, don't sneeze on it. You might blow off a small fossil off.

Also, You may not find one, yet. NO GUARANTEE of finding one  at all.

Store your picture within your computer files, in order to view them later. I hope that these steps help out.
More information coming out later on.
